You are bidding on a tragic cover scarce but  badly damaged. Found screwed up in the bottom of a mixed auction lot it is posted Tain, Ross, Scotland to ' Mr Henry M. Upcher Esq., Reykjavik, Iceland, via Grangemouth near Edinburgh'. Backstamps Tain JY 14 1862, Falkirk 16 Jy 1862 and a partial GrangeMOUTH. Cover has stamp missing and paper loss which is pity because a good destination. Remaining stamp is 6d SG 70 which has a good cat. value and looks sound. Cancelled by a partial 320 of Tain. I did a google search for the addressee and found an obituary (1921) for the Rev. Chas. William Sheppard b 1838 who accompanied by MR UPCHER and a G.G. Fowler had visited Iceland at this time and published a book on the North West Penninsular of Iceland. the trio had also visited Palestine in 1864-5. Seems Mr Upcher was a birdwatcher from a Sheringham Norfolk family. COVER HAS MORE FAULTS THAN CAN BE LISTED SO IF YOU BID DO SO ON THAT BASIS. Low start.
