Two mounted mint stamps issued by El Salvador in 1977 for the 1976 Chess Olympiad which was held in Israel, among strong opposition from Arab and Eastern Europe Countries.  The Arab Nations organised a team tournament in opposition to the Official Olympiad and invited Russia and other Eastern European countries, but they refused to participate in any tournament in opposition to the F.I.D.E. and so boycotted this event as well.  This left a very weak tournament and was won by El Salvador, ahead of Tunisia and Pakistan.  The El Salvador Post Office commemorated this victory by issuing this set of two stamps the following year.
